Because mine doesn't. I have downloaded MaCam and Sonix drivers. None of them worked. Although I did manage to get a green light on the cam (which means power if nothing else) while playing with this issue. I also did manage to get a weird image of myself but when I brought up the cam controls nothing I slid or clicked changed anything. I do not know which driver was controlling the cam because I had a few of them installed at the same time. I know.... I know... not very smart or helpful. I am just switching from PC to Mac. I can fix tons of things myself on a PC... but I'm not doing as well with this Mac... yet.

I know that when I installed Mint 13, I was given the option to take my picture and the webcam kicked on appearing to work. But really I don't know if it is a driver problem or as you say, it could be a website problem. Normally this website is run under IE on Windows. It also works with Firefox and Chrome on Windows, as well as Safari on Mac OS X. Connecting a Microsoft LifeCam to your Mac computer sounds like it should be a simple process: plug it into a USB port and go. However, because the LifeCam wasn't designed with Mac users in mind, the two devices aren't compatible out-of-the-box. Webcam Settings for Mac OS X and Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000, Manual Exposure Mode, Aperture Priority Mode, Exposure Time, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, Auto White Balance Temperature, Manual White Balance, Auto Focus, Manual Focus, Zoom, Pan, Tilt, Power Line Frequency 50Hz, 60Hz and Backlight Compensation.
It seems to me that there are a lot more options for fixing things with a PC than there are with a Mac. It also seems that everything is much more expensive with a Mac than with a PC. And lastly, it seems that Macs are quite touchy about what they will willingly 'play' with. I switched because I have heard so many great things about Macs, and because I wanted to experience them. I was excited to do so, now I'm not so sure I made the right move here.
The pros are that overall? When it works... it works awesome. Right? I mean, that is why Mac lovers love their Macs. Right? So why such a hard time getting various components gooing? I'm also having issues with a headset/mic combination and with migrating from my PC to my Mini, but I will save those for later postings and concentrate this one on the two issues I have already mentioned above. One being the LifeCam and the other being why is it so difficult to resolve issues with Macs. I only mention these last two issues to verify just how touchy this Mac Mini is.
